CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT: Once you have located the clutch adjustment mechanism on a manual transmission, you'll need to check for free play. Free play at the clutch pedal itself should be about 1-1/2 inches, may a little bit less at the pedal before you feel resistance. If this isn't quite right, you'll need to adjust the linkage itself. It's generally an apparatus that will have a threaded bolt that runs through and has a nut on each end. You'll need to adjust the block relative to the threaded rod until the adjustment is correct. To adjust the block, you simply loosen the front or forward bolt. Next, you'll need to tighten up on the rear bolt until the free play at the pedal is correct. Be sure to retighten both nuts after the operation. If after referring to your owner's manual, you find you have a hydraulic clutch system on your manual transmission, it's a good idea to periodically check the master cylinder fluid level to make sure it is full. Check your manual for proper flushing intervals and see your mechanic if constantly low.
